Course Description

Symphonic Band (UC/CSU)
Required for all freshman bands students. Students learn the California State Standards for music theory, music history and also spend time exploring world music. As the only theory class, the freshman will play their instruments with the concert band music concurrently being played in 0 period as well as study the test taken in music appreciation classes in college. Students take field trips to the Mondavi Center to see performances of world music and dance ensembles and create their own musical instruments. Students that wish to test out of the class may do so on teacher/administrator approval only. www.emeraldbrigade.org (continued on next page) 41 For students who have been in Marching Band one term. Not required to participate in Saturday Marching Band competitions. This class is for students who are able to have band all year on the block schedule. The band will be working on concert band repertoire, as well as provide music for athletic events. Depending on the Performing Arts calendar, this band will perform three concerts in the spring and may include 1 tour. This band may march in a parade.
